Broca will provide SMS-payments in Nigeria

Broca, UK mobile messaging vendor was selected to provide the technology for a SMS-based payments and pilot banking services in Nigeria.

Broca is to supply a pilot system based on its Secure Advanced Messaging Service (Sams) to Telnet Nigeria which will then be offered to banking clients in the country.

With the new service customers in Nigeria will be able to initiate cash transfers, pay for airtime and for satellite TV.

Alibaba.com moves to Taiwan

A famous Chinese e-commerce auction site Alibaba.com with 30 mln registered users from over 240 countries and regions has announced the opening of an office in Taiwan, its third one outside mainland China.

According to the official statement this move will enable the portal to serve 40,000 members in the "priority market" of Taiwan better.

The recent reports inform that a leading electronic payments processing and support services company ePayments Corp. is to purchase ACH Technologies Inc. of Hastings, Minn.

A new online payment option is being introduced by Google China for its AdSense advertising alliance.

Localizing an online Chinese payment system is a top priority goal Google China poses for its local AdSense efforts. At present time it is conducting pilot tests of the new payment system.

The name of the Google's payment partner was not disclosed yet, but as per Roy Zhou (Zhou Wenbiao), Google's manager for online sales and operations in northern Asia, Alipay is not concerned with it.

PayPal brings eBay big profits

EBay proved to reach significant revenue over the second quarter with a 22% profit increase. The e-commerce giant reported a quarterly revenue of $2.2 billion, up by 20% ($361 million) over the revenue of $1.8 billion during the same time last year.

Thus the second quarter net income made up $460 million, or 35 cents per diluted share while on a non-GAAP basis, eBay claimed a profit of $568 million, or earnings per share of 43 cents.
