US appeals court rejects Verizon’s and MetroPCS’ complaints against FCC

Complaints filed by some wireless companies against FCC rules were declined by a US federal appeals court as premature. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit granted on Monday the Federal Communications Commission's motions to dismiss as premature lawsuits filed by Verizon Communications Inc and MetroPCS Communications Inc.

Both companies filed complaints against FCC accusing the regulator of overstepping its authority in creating new rules aimed at regulating Internet traffic.

 Nokia was again found as not infringing patents belonging to InterDigital. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has upheld its previous decision in favor of Nokia in a patent case launched against the mobile phone maker by wireless technology company InterDigital. The patents allegedly infringed by Nokia are related to the UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) mobile standard.

A Brooklyn court indicted 8 persons for running a fraudulent scheme that involved such dealers as Got Wireless and KP Wireless who used customer details to order handsets. The court documents say that the two of the defendants who ran cellular dealerships in New York and Florida, picked up customer details from the network's databases, then used the details to impersonate those customers and order additional handsets, as well as making insurance claims for broken handsets.
