Complaints filed by some wireless companies against FCC rules were declined by a US federal appeals court as premature. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit granted on Monday the Federal Communications Commission's motions to dismiss as premature lawsuits filed by Verizon Communications Inc and MetroPCS Communications Inc.

Both companies filed complaints against FCC accusing the regulator of overstepping its authority in creating new rules aimed at regulating Internet traffic.

On Tuesday Internet telephony company Skype announced its deal with the largest US wireless operator Verizon Wireless, marking the first major step towards reconciliation of mobile services industry and online telephony.

"Verizon and Skype getting together is like Tom and Jerry making peace," said one senior telecoms industry executive.

A mobile operator Vodafone is implementing M-Pesa payment system in South Africa after its successful deployment in Kenya.

 Nokia was again found as not infringing patents belonging to InterDigital. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has upheld its previous decision in favor of Nokia in a patent case launched against the mobile phone maker by wireless technology company InterDigital. The patents allegedly infringed by Nokia are related to the UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) mobile standard.
