Verizon Wireless and American Express launch mobile payment system

Verizon Wireless in association with American Express are integrating Serve online payment system for the use in mobile phones and tablets.

Customers may fund their Serve accounts via an existing credit or debit card or checking account, and then make purchases from a mobile device. The payment is authenticated with the user's mobile number.

Besides, customers will be given a Serve card when signing up for the service. This card then can be used for in-person purchases in stores.

Verizon Wireless to pay $10 billion

Verizon Wireless will pay a $10 billion dividend early next year to its stakeholders Vodafone Group Plc and Verizon Communications.

According to the statement Vodafone will be paid $4.5 billion, or $1 billion less than the amount the British company's chief financial officer, Andy Halford, had said he expected as recently as June 30.

The payouts will be made on the basis of the stake owned by each parent company. 45% share belongs to Vodafone while the rest is owned by Verizon Communications.

In a move to rival the stir created by Verizon Wireless iPhone the number four US mobile carrier T-Mobile is launching a new promotion: all of its phones will be free with a two-year contract.

The phone that will be given to subscribers will include such models as the Android-equipped HSPA+ myTouch 4G and G2, and the Windows Phone 7 HTC HD7. A total of 30 free phones will be available from brands that include HTC, Garmin, Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung.

Sunday the mobile carrier Verizon Wireless announced its plan to repay millions of dollars in refunds to 15 million cell phone customers who were unjust charged by the company for data sessions and Internet use.

While the amount for repayment was not disclosed by the carrier it is known that 15 million consumers will receive credits or refund checks that in most cases would range from $2 to $6 but would go beyond this in some cases, on their October or November bills. Former customers will get refund checks while existing customers will get credits.
