Google publishes Transparency Report

Transparency Report has been released by Google at the end of the last week. The report reflects how many requests for data governments across the globe have made.

Between January and June this year, the US government made 4,287 requests for data on the search engine's users. Same time, the UK government made 1,343 requests.

 The government of the United Kingdom plans a new legislation that would require Internet service providers to retain and disclose data about instant messages, e-mail and other electronic communications. It states that the knowledge about the participants, timing and method of a communication -- but not its contents -- is vital in protecting the public from serious crime and terrorism.

Chairman of Lloyds will leave in a year as shareholders chafe at HBOS purchase

A British paper reported on Sunday that the chairman of Lloyds Banking Group PLC Sir Victor Blank will leave his position amid criticism over the purchase of struggling bank HBOS. Sky News and the BBC, meanwhile, said the bank's board was meeting Sunday morning.

Blank has been under pressure of shareholders since he agreed to the Lloyd’s acquisition of ill-fated HBOS that earlier this year posted a full-year loss of 7.5 billion pounds, said the Sunday Telegraph.
