Wells Fargo enters Visa’s NFC-payment test joining BofA and US Bancorp

As it became known, Wells Fargo has become the latest banks to affirm its participation in trials of NFC-enabled mobile payments technology in association with Visa.

Wells Fargo probe appeared to be a part of a major push by Visa to have a commercially-viable product ready for launch in 2011.

MasterCard has unveiled its plans to test Gemalto miniature card that is supposed to be inserted into mobile phone SIMs that will let handsets be turned into contactless payments devices. This system represents the first of its kind conforming to the Single Wire Protocol as endorsed by the GSMA.

Citibank, Visa and M1 partner for mobile payments pilot in Singapore

Citibank Singapore established a partnership agreement with Visa and M1, a mobile operator, to implement a three month contactless m-payments trial in Singapore. 

The novelty is to be started in May. It will see up to 300 Citi M1 Platinum Visa cardholders given a Nokia 6212 classic handset. Participants of the experiment will be enabled to make purchases of up to S$100 at over 750 merchants by waving the NFC-enabled mobile phones over a contactless reader at the point of sale.

Chinese court passes a sentence in a  'biggest-ever' Internet gambling case

On Sunday Chinese court jailed 20 people accused of the country's biggest ever online gambling case. It considered to be the country's biggest online gambling case. The Xinhua news agency reported ringleader Qian Baochun was sentenced by the Shanghai Putuo District People's Court to six years and ordered to pay a fine of five million yuan (that equals 735,000 dollars or 567,000 euros) for establishing gambling websites.

3-year trial over Western Union is over

On January 8, 2009, the Arizona Superior Court ruled in favor of Western Union. The ruling stated that subpoenas issued by the Arizona Attorney General for consumer transaction data were unreasonably broad and, therefore, unenforceable.

The case arose in 2006 when the Arizona Attorney General issued subpoenas seeking consumer data about a large number of transactions which were neither initiated nor paid in Arizona.
