A settlement agreement was reached by a subsidiary of Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. with the Illinois Attorney General as the prosecutors accused the ticket selling unit of distributing tickets to Hannah Montana and Bruce Springsteen concerts at unfairly high prices.

Senators gave the CEOs of the two largest live events and ticket sales companies Live Nation and Ticketmaster a rather skeptical reception. In the course of the hearing Sen. Charles Schumer urged Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff to sell TicketsNow whose actions incurred public censure just before the merger was announced.

A new merger in the entertainment sector is anticipated to be announced as soon as this week. Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. and Live Nation Inc. are in talks on creating a music industry powerhouse with a combined market value of more than $700 million. In case of a successful completion of the deal the industry will see a dominant player with ties to more than 200 artists, including Eagles, Madonna, Cristina Aguilera and others.
