Ticketmaster and Live Nation merge at last

Monday, Ticketmaster and Live Nation announced their merge in a move to reshape the live-entertainment business, after agreeing to conditions from the Justice Department designed to support rivals selling tickets and manage venues and performers.


Executives immediately united the world's dominant ticket seller and concert promoter, though the agreement must be approved by the US District Court for the District of Columbia

A settlement agreement was reached by a subsidiary of Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. with the Illinois Attorney General as the prosecutors accused the ticket selling unit of distributing tickets to Hannah Montana and Bruce Springsteen concerts at unfairly high prices.

Senators gave the CEOs of the two largest live events and ticket sales companies Live Nation and Ticketmaster a rather skeptical reception. In the course of the hearing Sen. Charles Schumer urged Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff to sell TicketsNow whose actions incurred public censure just before the merger was announced.
