Since the termination of its exclusive agreement with AT&T, it is not surprising that Apple wants to expand to other carriers. |

AT&T will acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for an approximate price of $39 billion. AT&T is the largest wireless network in the United States having nearly 95.5 million subscribers, while T-Mobile runs the fourth largest, with 23 million. Both networks use the same GSM technology and thus the merger will leave America with only one GSM provider.
Verizon, the second largest mobile network, and Sprint, the third, use the CDMA standard. |

Three mobile operators T-Mobile, Telefonica O2 and Vodafone have announced their partnership to promote m-payments in Czech Republic. The operators launched a special campaign 'Pay by Mobile' ('Plat mobilem') which even has its own black and orange logo. It is known that today more than 11% Czechs use their mobile phones to pay for goods. However mobile operators consider this figure very low, so they decided to extend the network of vendors offering this convenient payment method. |

In a note to clients, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu told clients that Apple and Verizon Wireless are still negotiating important details for the iPhone, "including technology and economics," Fortune reports. Wu wouldn't rule out the possibility of Sprint or T-Mobile getting the iPhone instead of, or in addition to, Verizon. |

Hackers have come to the proof of concept that a (jailbroken) iPad 3G can send SMS text messages, and work with other wireless carrier's networks. While Apple says the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G comes without a carrier lock on AT&T's network still the differences between the networks result in that user will have to do with only EDGE speeds.
One more problem is that in order to use a T-Mobile data contract on an iPad, you will have to do some DIY hackery and trim a traditional SIM card with a scissor. |
