Scandal around VeriSign SSL bug: is Comodo right? BofA and others at risk?

The Internet security solutions vendor Comodo posted this week a statement that says “it requested an independent third-party notify VeriSign of a security vulnerability affecting its customers Web sites, including a major financial institution.” Comodo found webpages used to process customer security certificates, a practice, it claims, puts some of the biggest names on the web at risk of serious targeted attacks.

An online investment project ReProFinance announced that it had increased the security of their investors with a new SSL certificate.

Effective immediately the new 256 bit single Root SSL certificate issued by Equifax Secure CA encrypts all investors’ transactions inside their member area. The certificate was issued for making the connecting between ReProFinance website and a user.

SSL certificates are vulnerable and can expose customers’ data

 SSL, or the Secure Sockets Layer system that is widely used to protect Web traffic against data theft was found vulnerable to hacking attacks. The system that is mainly used for online banking, shopping, and any other https connection appears to have a flaw that allows an attacker to break into any theoretically secured connection and add malicious commands.

Go Daddy shares 65% of SSL market

The latest reports reveal that Internet domain registrar Go Daddy is experiencing a steady growth in its SSL certificates sales and by the moment it achieved over 65% market share on all net-new SSL Certificates across the globe. According to the February Netcraft Ltd. report Go Daddy released 9,500 SSL certificates within a one month period.

Assuritas teams up with GlobalSign

It was announced that Assuritas made partnership with GlobalSign.. It has joined the GlobalSign Partner Program. It was done to offer SSL Certificates to its customers, including Extended Validation Certificate standard.

Assuritas, known as a provider of identity management and anti-fraud products and services, will spread its business frontiers with the GlobalSign Partner Program.
