Users can now set up an online store with Google Checkout online payment service. Google Labs announced recently the launch of a new widget (or gadget, as Google calls it) to allow sellers to embed a large version of the Google Checkout store gadget on their own website or on Google Sites a free webhosting service - to act as the user's ecommerce store.

Exceeding analysts’ expectations eBay still posts low profits

On Tuesday an ecommerce giant eBay posted its quarterly results with a net profit exceeding the expectations of the Wall Street, reports Reuters. Besides it also gave its forecast for the third quarter. Apart from connecting sellers and buyers online through auctions and fixed-price sales eBay also includes Web payments unit PayPal and Internet telephone company Skype.

PayPal extends its Buyer Protection at Marktplaats.nl to over 900 categories

On the official blog of the company Robbert de Haan, Marketing Director of PayPal Benelux, announced that PayPal has expanses its buyer protection to over 900 categories on Marktplaats.nl, a popular classified site in the Netherlands and an eBay Inc company. 

As it was reported earlier on May 12th, PayPal was integrated in the books, CD/ DVD and telecommunications groups on Marktplaats.nl.

AlertPay prolongs refunds time for its clients

This week an online payment system AlertPay made a short announcement to its clients about the refunds program. On the official blog the company said: “Sellers can now issue refunds up to 14 days after the transaction's creation date! It used to be only 7 days, but due to a rising demand to increase this time frame, Sellers now have an additional 7 days to refund their customers, if necessary.”

An editor at AuctionBytes Ina Steiner was clarifying the question about the difference between eBay’s Payflow Gateway Service and the same Payflow gateway at PayPal. As it is known eBay requires sellers who have credit card merchant accounts to use its Payflow Gateway Service (at no extra cost) to allow buyers to enter their credit card information directly and securely in eBay checkout.

Google Checkout increases fees and eliminates AdWords discounts

Online payment processor Google Checkout, which was initially launched by Google as an alternative to eBay’s payment processor PayPal, has announced the coming increase of fees to become effective on May 05, 2009. Currently Google Checkout charged rates as low as 1.9% + $0.30 per transaction, depending on the monthly sales volume. And there are no monthly, setup or gateway fees.

eBay online auction changes the system of bidders’ IDs

eBay Australia has announced that from next Tuesday 3 February eBay.com.au will change the way it displays the bidders’ IDs to align with other eBay sites (e.g. a***b). The online auction has explained its decision by the willingness of the auction users to stay informed: “We’ve received plenty of feedback from our community about the way bidders IDs are displayed and we know many of you prefer the transparency that the aliases used on other eBay sites offers.”
