American Express reports a 31% profit growth

Second quarter profits of American Express increased by 31% according to the report posted by the credit card network.

According to the data average spending by consumers on their American Express cards for the quarter rose by 15% to $3,767 from the same period a year ago.

Visa reveals strong performance during the second quarter

On Wednesday Visa Inc announced financial results for the company's fiscal second quarter 2009 ended March 31, 2009.

It was revealed that on an adjusted basis net income for the quarter made up $553 million, or $0.73 per diluted class A common share. GAAP net income for the quarter made up $536 million, or $0.71 per diluted class A common share. The weighted average number of diluted class A common shares outstanding was 753 million.
