American Express launches no-fee prepaid card

American Express announced the launch of a new reloadable prepaid card with no activation or maintenance fees.

Customers pay no fees for purchasing the Card online, monthly maintenance, activation, balance inquiries, alerts, Card replacement, foreign currency conversion or loading via bank account.

Besides, the funds on the Card do not expire, and if lost or stolen, the funds can be replaced. The first monthly ATM cash withdrawal is free, after which a $2.00 fee applies (bank network charges may also apply).

The global payments provider Western Union Company has partnered with InComm, a marketer, distributor and technology innovator of stored-value gift and prepaid cards, to offer Western Union General Purpose Reloadable prepaid cards (GPR). The Western Union® MoneyWise™ Prepaid Card will first be offered in the U.S. through InComm retail locations.

The Western Union MoneyWise Prepaid Card complements the Western Union GoCashSM service, an in-lane money-transfer service offered through InComm retail locations in the U.S. since December 2009.

NetSpend has signed a distribution agreement with InComm to provide InComm’s retail partner locations with the opportunity to sell and reload the NetSpend general purpose reloadable debit card.

Now NetSpend cardholders will be able to reload their cards at the 93,000 current locations and at the participating InComm retailers. Cardholders also have access to online bill pay, free direct deposit, free card-to-card transfers and online budgeting and spending tools.

nFinanSe Inc., a financial services company and provider of stored value and prepaid card solutions, is reducing retail price of its Reloadable Prepaid Card to $3.00 from $5.95 effective July 1, 2009. The move comes as Wal-Mart announced recently that it reduced the price of its reloadable card from $8.94 to $3.00.
