JPMorgan posts $3.3 billion in Q4 profits

JPMorgan Chase & Co, the second-largest U.S. bank by assets, provided its financial data reporting the increase of its fourth-quarter profit to $3.3 billion from $702 million a year earlier, which was helped by strong results from its investment bank unit.

The bank reported that a quarterly profit was 74 cents a share, compared with 6 cents a year ago. Analysts on average expected 61 cents a share. The revenue posted by the bank was $25.2 billion.

American largest bank U.S. Bancorp reports unexpected profits

One of the 10 top American banks U.S. Bancorp reported higher-than-expected revenues on Tuesday which sent its shares up about 21%, says Reuters. Losses from lease financing, construction and development loans as well as credit cards were offset by the string mortgage performance.

Loan losses accounted for $1.3 billion, up $833 million than a year before. Chief Executive Richard Davis expects to set aside similar amounts in the next two quarters, before loan losses start to moderate toward year end.

First Data reports 9% increase in consolidated revenues and $3.8 billion losses

This week First Data Corp. announced its fourth quarter and full year financial report for the period ended December 31, 2008. The report reveals that consolidated revenues for the quarter increased by 8% to $2.3 billion. The adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter rose 1% to $667 million. The net loss for the quarter stood for $3.2 billion which consisted of a non-cash goodwill impairment charge of $3.2 billion.
