Google launches an affiliate program to sell its eBooks

Google announced an affiliate program to allow publishers promote its eBook service on their websites for a certain pay.

Google will accept publishers of a variety of websites into the program, including online retailers, blogs and book publishers.

"Starting today, we invite all interested site owners to apply to join the expanded Google eBooks affiliate program. Participating sites gain new revenue streams by giving their book-reading audiences an easy way to buy Google eBooks," wrote Pratip Banerji, product manager at the Google Books team, in a blog post.

Western Union payment option is now accessible for more AdSense users

AdSense users in more countries now may avail themselves of Western Union cash payment option as the money transfer company has announced the expansion of the previously launched service available only in a limited number of states. Now Western Union payment option is available in 30 countries including China, Morocco, Jamaica, Philippines and Ecuador. The companies have recently added six new payout countries including the UAE, Lebanon, Croatia, Moldova, Slovenia and Tunisia and expect to add additional countries later this year.

Google publishers subpoenaed by Justice Department

In a move to get the information on a deal reached with Google the Department of Justice antitrust division served at least two publishers with the civil equivalent of a subpoena, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. The class action settlement concerns copyright and gives Google, which has been scanning books, the right to digitize and sell entire libraries.

On Tuesday on the company blog Alexander Macgillivray, associate general counsel for products and intellectual property at Google, wrote that the search engine helps newspaper websites to make more profits through online advertising. He also denied allegations of some publishers that Google misappropriates their content.
