Internet is not killing TV: people won’t discard their boxes

People are not in a hurry to decline their usual TV habits because of new developments related to the Internet television, revealed the new study. Nielsen conducted a research commissioned by the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing that shows people who watch at least some content from the Web on their TV sets are "cord keepers" rather than "cord cutters."

Apple wants to rent TV shows to users off iTunes for 48 hours

Apple Inc is negotiating a deal with News Corp, Walt Disney and other media corporations to rent TV shows to viewers for 99 cents through iTunes, according to the sources with the knowledge of the matter. The talks are aimed at allowing viewers to rent network programming off Apple's iTunes store for 48 hours.

Meantime, the sources also report that a number of companies including NBC and CBS do not seem to be too happy about the offering because they believe it would undercut revenue they already earn through iTunes.

Software companies can test their programs on Fujitsu servers for free

Japanese IT firm Fujitsu Ltd announced that it would allow software makers to test their programs on its hardware for free so that they could examine performance. The company hopes such testing would boost sales of its computer servers with an aim to double such sales to about 10 billion yen ($114 million) by the financial year starting next April.

Software developers in turn will be able to promote their products to prospective clients such as manufacturers, a Fujitsu spokeswoman said.

US will address problem of children protection against sex and violence content

On Monday Julius Genachowski, a Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, stated that the agency will start an inquiry to examine the various technologies to block children from watching programs with sex and violence.

"Parents must have access to control technologies that can appropriately limit their children's exposure to unsuitable material," FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said in releasing an agency report detailing the technologies available to parents.

It has been discovered that Voice-over-IP applications along with programs that are larger than 10MB or that change the default browser on a device will be forbidden from Microsoft's Windows MarketPlace for Mobile store.

 

Marketplace for Mobile is due to launch in the second half of the year, and the company listed 12 prohibited application types from developers who register to create software for the store.
