Amazon’s losing profits dramatically

As it became known, Amazon.com Inc's quarterly profit fell, diminishing its shares by 14%. The online auction site’s profits dropped injured by 40% surge in expenses to $6.3 billion and by price cuts on its Kindle electronic reader.

PC prices are forecasted to increase this year

According to industry analysts, putting the squeeze on PC producers who are trying to recover from a recession, PC components prices are expected to increase.


Gartner analyst Ben Lee reported parts costs are expected to increase by 2.8% this year. On average, the price of parts has dropped by 7.8% annually since 2000.


High demand is to blame for pricier components, particularly with DRAM, which makes up 10% of a computer's cost.

Nintendo‘s Wii will be 20% cheaper

Nintendo will cut the price of its popular Wii video game console by 20 percent, responding to similar cuts by rivals Sony and Microsoft aimed at kick-starting demand. 

 Nintendo said it would lower the price of the Wii by $50 to $199.99 in the United States starting Sunday. The price in Japan will fall by 5,000 yen to 20,000 yen on Oct. 1.

US home sales surged unexpectedly in June

According to the figures US government presented Monday, sales of new single-family homes in the country soared more than it had been expected in June. At the same time, the inventory of homes for sale fell to a more than 11-year low. 

As the Commerce Department reported, sales grew by 11% to an annual rate of 384,000 last month, while the number of new homes still for sale fell to 281,000, the lowest level since February 1998.

German consumers are positive about economic conditions

The survey by GfK research group showed that the German consumer confidence remains steady, as low inflation and energy prices signal the economic turnaround may be in sight.

The company reported that its forward-looking consumer climate index for May stood at 2.5 points, same as in April and March.
