MoneyGram allows US customers top-up mobile balances of user in Philippines

MoneyGram International has partnered with Iris Wireless to provide prepaid mobile top-up services to allow Filipinos living in the United States to make money transfers to their friends and families in the Philippines. Under the terms of the agreement MoneyGram will enable US consumers to reload cell phone minutes to their associates in Philippines who use Iris Wireless’ partner Globe Telecom as their service provider.

RobinsonsBank joins Western Union business

In a move to strengthen its presence and exceed last year growth that surpassed 13.7%, Western Union Co. announced its intention to tap the Gokongwei-led JG Summit Group's banking and retail businesses. As the company reported, it chose thrift lender RobinsonsBank as its first direct agent bank in the Philippines.

Rural banks contributed 67% of jobs in Philippines banking industry

67 percent of net new employment generated by Philippine's rural banking system. This system also helped to open 70 percent of the new branches opened from 2003 to 2007. Rural bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) has been observed rural banks improvements during the past four years. And in spite of financial crisis the present conditions still offer tremendous opportunities/ According to RBAP's president Tomas Gomez the next few years will be rather hopeful.
