Demand in many US industries improves with profits up, recovery is near

 According to the recent survey of the National Association for Business Economics today more industries in the United States are experiencing increase in demand and profits which is considered as an additional evidence the economy is improving. The NABE reported that its net rising index (NRI) for demand rose to 23 in the July-September quarter, the first time in five quarters.

Gold near $1,000 on fears of economy and markets viability

On Friday gold was fluctuating near the level just below $1,000. Worries about the global economy and the sustainability of this summer's stock market gains have pushed bullion, traditionally a port during economic storms, up about 5 percent over the past two days to a six-month high on Thursday.

Spot gold was essentially unchanged at $990.05 by 0138 GMT after touching a peak of $997.20 on Thursday.

Mexican customers mostly use debit cards, says Visa

On Tuesday Visa Inc reported that according to the latest researches nearly 62% of Mexicans used a debit card last year. Visa polled 1,009 adults from different social classes between 18 and 64 years of age in the cities of Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City.

"Debit cards are becoming Mexicans' preferred form of payment due to the benefits they offer in terms of security, control and convenience," Eduardo Coello, chief executive of Visa Mexico, said in a press release.

Markets can take a longer breath, job cuts in U.S. were fewer this time

US government report released Friday showed that American employers cut 345,000 jobs last month, the fewest since September and far less than forecast which is considered as additional evidence the economy's severe weakness was diminishing.

Still, the unemployment rate reached 9.4% the highest since a matching rate in July 1983, from 8.9% in April, according to the Labor Department report.
