American Express offers digital payment to AOL’s Patch

American Express announced that it will offer to AOL’s Patch a digital payment and commerce platform dubbed Serve. Customers will be able to register for Serve accounts via hundreds of Patch sites.

Patch will also offer users the ability to redeem local deals and transact with local merchants via the American Express network. Through the partnership, local merchants will be able to post offers online in a more streamlined, effective way, and consumers will benefit by redeeming offers at the point of sale.

TippingPoint will disclose all unpatched software flaws to public in six months

TippingPoint announced it will give vendors six months to fix bugs before it goes public with information on software vulnerabilities. The company that sells Intrusion Prevention Systems acquired by HP this year has rewarded security researchers for information about vulnerabilities via its long-running Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) program. It uses this information to apply rules blocking exploits to its IPS technology, historically putting no particular pressure on vendors to develop patches.

Microsoft and Cisco have issued updates that protect against a new class of attack that requires very little bandwidth and can leave servers and routers paralyzed even after a flood of malicious data has stopped.

The bug in the TCP, or transmission control protocol, was disclosed in October by security researchers Jack Louis and Robert E. Lee of Sweden-based Outpost24.

Nine security flaws patched in Firefox 3.0.9

An updated version of Firefox browser was released on Tuesday by Mozilla, reports the Register. The new pack is meant to address nine security vulnerabilities one of which is the most critical.

The critical flaw addressed by Firefox 3.09 relates to a memory corruption problem. The two "high-risk" flaws involve same-origin violation security bugs. The remnant six flaws are as follows:
