Sony warns its VAIO laptops are overheating due to bug in BIOS, update needed

Sony announced this week that some of its notebooks may be affected by a bug that leads to overheating. On its official website the company warned:

Dear Valued Sony VAIO Customer,

Sony takes pride in the quality of its products.

Recently, we became aware of a potential issue affecting certain notebooks within the VAIO VPCF11- and VPCCW2-series, available on the market in Europe since January 2010.

Acer recalls its Aspire laptops on overheating problem

After several reports that some laptop models are overheating and melting in a microphone place Acer decided to recall about 22,000 Aspire notebooks.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission alerted that a microphone wire found underneath the notebook's palm rest can short-circuit and overheat.

The recalled notebooks are the Acer AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. Affected units were sold between June and October of 2009, the Commission said.

China will face overheating again?

According to senior central bank researcher’s Monday statement, as money supply growth accelerated over the recent months China's economy is on the verge of overheating again.


Jiao Jinpu sees the rapid rise in the more narrow measure of money supply, M1, in recent months as an indication that money is flowing at a faster pace. That measure grew 34.6% in November from a year earlier, compared with 29.7% for the broad M2 measure.

Apple has conceded that its new iPhone 3GS may be having some issues with regards to temperature its new smartphone can reach under normal circumstances. The company has been forced to issue a set of guidelines that will help users keep their handsets within a comfortable temperature range, thereby avoiding overheating problems. Apple's move comes after reports that white iPhones tend to turn pinkish brown quickly due to overheating.
