Google urges to install Android upgrade to smartphones because of DoS attacks

 Last week Google made an update into its Android mobile phone software after the reports that Android based mobile devise were hit by the denial of service attacks that exploited vulnerabilities in the operation system.

According to reports the first two bugs enable hackers to kick an Android phone off a mobile network and force a restart via a malformed SMS message. Fake text transmits a badly formatted WAP Push message that causes an exception on phones running the open source-based software, causing a restart.

 Mobile phone manufacturers will soon meet a new competitor in the face of the US largest PC maker Dell. According to a source the company plans to introduce Android based smartphone on carrier AT&T's network.

While the move will help Google boost its operation platform it may be a hard task for Dell to conquer its niche in the overfull mobile phone market.

EU commission will consider vendors’ feedback before settling Microsoft case

 European Union regulators said Wednesday they were preparing to settle a long and costly antitrust battle with Microsoft Corp. with a deal to give Windows users a choice of web browsers.

Microsoft promised the changes after the EU charged it with monopoly abuse for tying the Internet Explorer browser to the Windows operating system installed on most of the world's desktop computers.

 Lenovo Group Ltd. announced that its new Windows 7 based PCs will have fastest boot-up and shutdown times. ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktop PCs for businesses will boot Windows 7 up to 56% faster than when loading XP or Vista, Lenovo said. Besides, IdeaPad and IdeaCentre consumer PCs certified for "Windows 7 Lenovo Enhanced Experience" will load 33% faster and shutdown 50% faster than non-certified-but-otherwise-identical hardware, according to Computerworld reports.

Russia terminates investigation into Microsoft over Windows XP

On Monday the state anti-monopoly service of Russia, FAS, reported that it closed an investigation into Microsoft as it had found no violations of antitrust laws over cutbacks in supply of the Windows XP operating system. Earlier the agency launched a probe on suspicion that the software giant violates the law by cutting delivery of Windows XP to Russia both as a separate system and pre-installed on personal computers, as well as in its pricing policy on the product.
