Thanksgiving 2010 becomes the best for online merchants

According to the stats online retailers probably had the best Thanksgiving this weekend because those discounts reserved by Cyber Monday were widely offered through the weekend. Cyber Monday is the day when many people returning to work after Thanksgiving make gift purchases online.

"We've actually never seen a Thanksgiving Day this robust before online," said Fiona Dias, EVP of strategy and marketing for GSI Commerce, which operates more than 100 online stores for retailers including Toys R Us, Aeropostale Inc and Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.

Online spending reforecast, sales will be higher

According to the updated forecast made by comScore online spending this holiday is expected to grow by 11% as compared to the previous year. It is the second time the analytics firm updates its closely watched view. The new spending outlook should bring total holiday e-commerce spending to $32.4 billion, comScore said.

eBillme says consumers will spend $281 online each during the 4th quarter

 As the largest retail shopping season of the year approaches, eCommerce retailers can expect a surge in consumer spending compared to the previous quarter. Consumers anticipate that they will spend an average of $281 online during Q4 2009, a 24 percent increase over last quarter. While this represents the first increase in spending since last year, it is an 18 percent decrease in the overall spending rate as compared to Q4 2008. This is according to the eBillme™ Online Spending Index, a quarterly survey examining consumer spending trends online.

B2B companies still increase their spending


Research conducted by Outsell, showed that 13% of companies operating in business-to-business market with over 1,000 employees are increasing spending. This rate for small companies (with less than 100 workers) equals to 26%. 

 

Moreover, it was discovered that larger companies plan to cut overall marketing spending by 9.7%, while smaller ones are cutting only by 0.4%.

eBillme researched expected spending for Mothers day

eBillme and Shop.org conducted the similar surveys regarding expected spending for Mothers day. According to both studies, it is projected 20% of customers will shop online for a Mothers day gift this year. And approximately 9% of consumers will spend more this year on Mom than they did in the previous year.

Consumers’ spending online increased to $267 this quarter

According to the last survey of Javelin Strategy & Research and eBillme, the forecast of consumer spending online looks very positive. The amount of spending is going to increase 8% this quarter and reach $267 compared to $247 last quarter.  Despite the slight growth in online spending, the rates of offline retail sales do not look very cheerful.

Asia-Pacific and India are happy with online shopping

Visa conducted a study to track the state of ecommerce in the Asia-Pacific region. The survey revealed that within the last 12 months 75% of the respondents purchased at least any form of digital entertainment online. Among the most popular digital categories were music downloads purchased by 63% of the polled.
