European online shopping sites cheat customers

More than half of European websites selling consumer electronics are misleading or cheating online shoppers, the European Union consumer watchdog said on Wednesday after checks on 369 sites in 28 countries.

National regulators will now force them to amend their selling practices and could close such sites if they fail to comply.

The decline of the value of the pound led to the foreseeable reaction that online retailers offered their customers the discounts of up to 25 per cent. As a result, Asos, the online fashion retailer, following Amazon and eBay announced yesterday almost a near-threefold increase in international sales. The combination of exchange-rate volatility and the internet has handed an opportunity to shop to those without the time, money or inclination to travel to London.

What’s new with new Google Checkout?

Google Checkout has just announced enhancement of a “subscription” capability which will enable online sellers to charge buyers regularly without requiring buyers’ active involvement. 

The new Google Checkout has two different modes of operation: “Google-handled Subscriptions”, in which the seller only needs to define the subscription and Google charges the recurring payments itself; and
