Consumer confidence worldwide is the lowest since the peak of recession

According to the quarterly survey by the Nielsen Company global consumer confidence declined in the second quarter to the lowest level since the second half of 2009, the height of the global economic downturn. In the United States consumer sentiment was weaker than one and a half year ago.

The survey reveals that consumers across the globe continue tightening their belts and plan to cut their expenses on different luxuries and extra things.

According to the latest study from Nielsen, estimated online activity of 200,000 users, e-mail use on the desktop dropped dramatically, falling from 12% to 8.3% in 2010 from the previous year.

These figures showed desktop e-mail usage to fall into third place behind social gaming like Farmville.

Facebook strengthening its position as online video ground

Nielsen released a survey, VideoCensus, showed Facebook is tend to strengthen its position in the online video arena. It is not going to replace the social networking site YouTube as the leader in the online video front but the results turned out to be surprising.
According to the survey Facebook is now the third most popular video site in the US after placing tenth last month. With this pace Facebook has all chances to take over Hulu, which now passes one slot ahead.

Nielsen recorded eBay with 14.447 million unique users during October 2007 which rose gradually to a record of 15.841 million unique users last month. That's year-on-year increase of 9.6%, according to Nielsen.

So how can eBay be losing 10% of users in a year in the US, while it gains 9% the UK ? Analyst Jim Clark of Mintel said there's a obvious credit crunch factor: "UK consumers are the most sophisticated in Europe and it makes sense that they are trying to do more online to increase the value of the pound," he said.
