Microsoft Advertising has launched a new offering to allow Internet users find best deals in their areas through online circulars which resemble those that fall out of newspapers, as the company notes. The online circulars were launched by Microsoft as part of MSN Local Edition. As long as the website is geo-targeted only location relevant ads will be shown to visitors.

Google’s Schmidt encourages newspapers to go online for more profits

Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt unveiled his belief at the annual conference of American Society of News Editors in that newspapers can make money online.

Schmidt lauded newspapers as "fundamental" to democracy and predicted the newspaper business would formulate a new business model based on advertising and subscription revenue.

As he noted, newspapers actually don’t have news problem, but do have business model problem.

According to a new poll in the U.S., the Internet remains the most popular source of information and the preferred choice for news ahead of television, newspapers and radio About 84 percent of American have access to the Internet.

But just a small percentage of adults considered social websites such as Facebook and MySpace as a good source of news and even fewer would opt for Twitter.
