Microsoft Advertising has launched a new offering to allow Internet users find best deals in their areas through online circulars which resemble those that fall out of newspapers, as the company notes. The online circulars were launched by Microsoft as part of MSN Local Edition. As long as the website is geo-targeted only location relevant ads will be shown to visitors.

Yahoo has released its own style guide for content creators so that they could write “effectively for the web”. The company titled the guide "The Ultimate Sourcebook for Writing, Editing, and Creating Content for the Digital World".

Ranger Data Technologies and a group of 300 newspapers have joined under one roof to partner for the launch of a new online auction website that is meant to rival eBay and boost papers’ revenues. The website will be focused on local auctions.

Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt unveiled his belief at the annual conference of American Society of News Editors in that newspapers can make money online.

Schmidt lauded newspapers as "fundamental" to democracy and predicted the newspaper business would formulate a new business model based on advertising and subscription revenue.

As he noted, newspapers actually don’t have news problem, but do have business model problem.

Charles Zhang, the CEO of China’s No. 2 Internet portal Sohu.com Inc, said on Wednesday that in view of the government’s tight control over the national media China will unlikely have any voice heard on the international stage. He noted that plans to create global Chinese media giants were doomed to fail if the government did not relax controls.
