Western Union, a leading global payment services provider, has entered into a partnership with MTN Group, a largest mobile operator in Africa and the Middle East. Under their commercial agreement Western Union will introduce mobile remittance services in the 21 countries where MTN operates.

A lawsuit over patent infringement was launched against South Africa's Standard Bank and telco MTN. The companies are accused of infringing a technology patent in creating their mobile money joint venture.

Fundamo m-payments service available with MTN operator

MTN, South African mobile phone operator, announced its partnership with Fundamo, a South Africa-based mobile banking and payment solutions group, in order to boost subscriber loyalty and entice new users in Africa and the Middle East through launching a money transfer system. MTN, who already has the greatest amount of subscribers among the mobile companies in Africa, said the project, MobileMoney would be worth $9.7 million.
