Monitise opens new research center to test mobile payment technologies

Monitise, a mobile money outfit, launched a new research and development technology center in South Wales that will initially create 40 new jobs. The new center will be focusing on the development and testing of mobile banking, payments and commerce services.

Monitise says it chose Wales because of the expertise within local universities including the University of Glamorgan's Centre of Excellence in Mobile Applications and Services, which already works with a number of key players in the mobile industry.

Global Mobile Money solutions provider Monitise is launching its first mobile money apps for Android handsets in the United States,

The new applications are based on the company’s Globe technology platform to offer a range of fast and convenient services to users, including account balance inquiries, mini-statements, money transfer and bill payment.

The new apps complement the existing suite of text, secure browser and smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry and mobile web) services provided in the US by Monitise.

Monitise teams up with ViVOtech over mobile payments for US banks

Mobile money solutions provider Monitise has partnered with ViVOtech for offering mobile phone payments services to banks across the United States.

As a part of the partnership agreement customers of participating banks will be able to turn their handset into a mobile wallet (linked to registered bank accounts, credit and debit cards) and purchase items using contactless payments at merchants with NFC capabilities.

Monitise goes to Nigeria with mobile payments

UK mobile money operator Monitise has obtained a provisional license from the Central Bank of Nigeria to implement mobile payment services across the country.

Using its Globe platform Monitise will be offering financial services over the mobile phone to the unbanked, including savings, insurance and pensions. The service will also see the first deployment of the Monitise Mobile Wallet solution.

The implementation of the project will be partially subsidized by the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund which has assigned $1.5 million to the project.

Visa has invested £6.6 million in British m-banking provider Monitise

 Visa Inc. has announced its intention to invest £6.6 million in London-based mobile banking and payments service provider Monitise plc to increase its stake to 14.4%. Earlier the company has announced that the existing agreement with Monitise was prolonged to 2015. 

Last June Visa invested $13 million in the company by signing a 5-year strategic agreement called "Global Alliance Agreement". Under the agreement Monitise was to develop technology to provide SMS alerts and secure payments to 2 billion clients of Visa worldwide.

Monitise is continuing with its global domination plans after smashing through its one million customer targets for 2009.
The Morse spin-off now has 1.3 million customers in the UK and US, and is setting its sights on the Asia-Pacific region after signing a deal with Hong Kong direct investment firm Far Eastern this week.
As a result of the deal, the first Monitise mobile banking services are expected to be available in Asia-Pacific through banks and financial institutions in the region next year.

A new report by the Future Foundation think tank and mobile banking company Monitise was devoted to the way how technology is changing how people interact with banks. The UK's mobile banking market is growing at over 30 per cent a year that tells the sector gaining real momentum. ¬A survey of 1,000 adults revealed 5.6 per cent used their mobile phone to access their bank accounts and manage their finances in November 2009, up from 4.3 per cent a year earlier.

Brits trust internet banking more, according to Monitise

Monitise, the mobile banking firm, conducted a research in conjunction with the Future Foundation think-tank, showed that one in five Brits would rather use a computer or mobile phone to check their bank statement compared than call a phone banking centre.
According to research, just one in 20 were happy to use these methods to manage their money in 2002.
The research also highlighted that 18 to 25 year olds are most happy to use the internet and mobile phone banking.

Monitise allows people to manage their money closely without the need to visit a branch, phone a call centre or log on to the internet.
