Moneybookers makes official announcement of its rebranding into Skrill

Europe’s largest online payment system Moneybookers announced its rebranding to Skrill. According to the company’s explanation the new name will become shorthand for a safe and innovative way for customers to shop online with greater choice, flexibility, reliability and peace of mind.

The official release says: “Skrill better captures the ease and functionality of the company's online payment suite and reflects its recent success as it extends its international payment network even further for consumers and retailers alike.”

Moneybookers fears US government and shuts down WikiLeaks’ account

WikiLeaks, an international organization that publishes anonymous submissions and leaks of otherwise unavailable documents while preserving the anonymity of sources, reported that it has had its funding blocked by the prominent UK payment processor Moneybookers on request of the US government who started the war against the whistleblower.

When asked by WikiLeaks about the explanation Moneybookers responded that it had closed down its account because it had been put on an official US watchlist and on an Australian government blacklist.

Moneybookers will be sold and rebranded as Skrill

A prominent online payment processor Moneybookers will raise about £200 million by floating on the London Stock Exchange in the next few months. The move comes after its Middle Eastern owner Investcorp last year tried to sell Moneybookers.

The majority stake is owned by the Bahrain-based investment group which acquired the company in 2007 for €105m. According to reports Investcorp hired JPMorgan to manage the sale and was understood to be looking for as much as €400m for the UK-based group but failed to attract a buyer.

 An online payment service Moneybookers has introduced a new prepaid card to enable users to access their cash in Moneybookers eWallet directly at any ATM or point of sale where MasterCard is accepted.

Users of the Moneybookers MasterCard prepaid card issued by Newcastle Building Society will not have to split funds and separately preload the card. Instead, the Moneybookers MasterCard synchronises automatically in real time with the funds in the customer's Moneybookers eWallet.
