Apple is richer than the US government

According to a report from Business Insider, Apple Inc has more money than the US government. The media portal said that "the world's largest tech company has more cash than the world's largest sovereign government."

Apple recently announced its financial results for the third quarter that revealed the company had $76.2 billion (£46.8bn) in cash and marketable securities at the end of last month.

Purchases are organized according to tags created by a user instead of predefined categories which makes it more flexible for most purposes. A typical expense is added very easily: a consumer just needs to enter the price, tap his/her existing tag and press Save.

Thousand banks will fail within next year or two

John Kanas, a CEO of BankUnited, reiterated his forecast for the banks in the United States. He predicts that a thousand banks will fail in the next year or two.

“There is an overcapacity in the banking industry and that will be taken care of,” he said. “We lost 140, 150 last year; we’re on track to lose a similar amount this year. We lost 25 or 30 the year before.”

Earlier in August Kanas made the same forecasts.

As a response to the EU decision to regulate hedge funds market the Alternative investment Management Association (AIMA) made a statement that it will unveil the secrecy of hedge funds. The trade body whose members manage over 75% of hedge fund assets across 43 countries proposed that hedge funds would disclose all significant trading positions to global regulators, including short positions.

More money needs to be issued, claims Bank of England

It has been revealed that Bank of England policy makers have unanimously agreed to ask the government for authority to create money, as further interest rate cuts may decrease the profitability of banks.

The Monetary Policy Committee, led by Governor Mervyn King, voted 8-1 to cut the main rate to 1 percent. This would be the lowest rate since the central bank was founded in 1694.

Brazil will use $20 billion Forex reserves to help the companies

President of Central Bank of Brazil Henrique Meirelles has stated that the country has enough foreign currency reserves to help compensate for a drop in international credit lines to the country. So, the bank is planning to offer credit lines in dollars, using funds from its reserves, to domestic banks on Feb. 27, March 13 and March 27. The lines intended to help the companies which have some difficulties with cash to pay foreign obligations, may total $20 billion, said the president.
