According to a global survey conducted by Synovate, most people can't live without their mobiles, never leave home without them and, if given a choice, would rather lose their wallet. Calling mobile phones the "remote control" for life, the survey said cell phones are so ubiquitous that by last year more humans owned one than did not. The Synovate mobile phones survey was conducted online in Canada, Denmark, France, Malaysia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Britain and the United States.

Travelers in UK will pay for a journey with their NFC bank cards

According to sources, the UK government is planning to introduce a national smart ticketing system that will let travelers pay directly for bus and train journeys using their NFC-enabled bank cards and mobile phones. The national plans come in the wake of London's successful Oyster card system, which is now used for 78% of bus and tube journeys.

Gartner Research reports that computer makers are facing their worst times this year and PC shipments are expected to fall 12% in 2009, exceeding the previous record of 2001 when they were down 11.1%. The global server sales have also been found to have fallen 15.1% in the fourth quarter of the last year while mobile phone shipments decreased 4.6%.
