eBay takes a large mobile market through a deal with Telefonica

eBay is expanding its mobile reach in Europe through a deal with Telefonica which will equip the ecommerce giant with most smartphones and feature phones sold by the Telefonica via its O2 brand with eBay’s mobile app or a link to eBay’s mobile page pre-loaded.

The agreement includes most Android, Windows 7, Symbian and Bada devices sold by O2 in the UK over the next two years. Telefonica will actually work with device manufacturers to pre-install the application.

Ecommerce pioneer eBay has purchased Critical Path Software, a mobile application developer, in a move to further increase its selling via mobile market. The terms of the transaction were not unveiled.

A Portland, Oregon-based company has partnered with eBay for over 2 years with the key focus on developing its app for Apple Inc's iPhone, which eBay says has been downloaded more than 14 million times.

Apart from this Critical Path also developed applications for eBay's ticket site StubHub, eBay Classified and shopping site Shopping.com.
