Visa will spend €200 million for deployment of m-payments and contactless cards

Visa Europe intends to invest €200 million on R&D for low-value contactless payments by card and mobile device, claiming M-commerce to be a strategic priority.

As said Visa Europe's head of UK and Ireland Marc O'Brien, the company is are working and talking with all the mobile operators and handset manufacturers to develop standards for payment on mobile phones.

Fiserv, Inc announced Monday, that Umpqua Bank and a subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings Corporation chose Mobile Money from Fiserv to provide customers with the ability to manage their finances using their mobile device.

Mobile Money is tightly integrated into the Fiserv online banking and bill pay services already used by Umpqua, which will enable the bank to easily widen these applications to the mobile channel.

Disneyland Paris announced about its collaboration with French banks Credit Mutuel and CIC to trial contactless payments via mobile phones and cards in its shops and restaurants. So, Disneyland Paris is now looking for the annual pass holders who have accounts with Credit Mutuel or CIC to participate in the test, starting in October of the current year.

Bangkok Bank is deploying Fiserv m-banking service

As it became known on Tuesday, Bangkok Bank signed up for Fiserv's Mobile Money service aiming to get access to its Internet banking platform from their handsets.


The new M-Com powered browser-based application now is available in two languages Thai and English. The new service enables customers to view account information, pay bills, transfer funds and top up their mobile phone account.

Who uses m-payments more often?

A survey conducted by AC Nielsen showed that 96 per cent of men use mobile payment solutions to settle their utility bills.

However, Probir Roy, founder and director of PayMate, a mobile payment solution service provider, expects females to “catch up” on the matter. “I think these are early days and early results. A lot of people are not aware of mobile payment solutions,” said he.

Belgacom trials mobile payments at Coca-Cola drink dispensers

Belgacom announced it is partnering with Accor Services, Delhaiuze and Coca-Cola to pilot Ping.Ping, a new mobile payment service. The contactless NFC feature will be tested at drink dispensers and for canteen purchases with the help of 500 Belgacom staff.

The Belgian telecommunications company is deploying the technology of Tunz 40% stake of which is hold by the Belgacom.
