CEO at HSBC and Standard Chartered will send bonuses for charity?

As it became known HSBC’s and Standard Chartered’s CEOs intend to provide charity with their bonuses.

Michael Geoghegan chief executive of HSBC would accept his bonus but give it to several charities. Geoghegan stands to be awarded a bonus of four times his basic salary of 1.1 million pounds (or $1.68 million).

At the same time, Peter Sands, head of Standard Chartered, planned to donate his bonus to charity as well.

Lloyds is negotiating with equity firms over its unit controlling stake

Lloyds Banking Group is currently in negotiations with private stock companies interested in buying a controlling stake in its Integrated Finance unit.

So Lloyds is in talks with 3i Advent International and Coller Capital over the  Integrated Finance unit.

UK Court unexpectedly ruled in favor of the national banks

The U.K.'s Supreme Court on Wednesday unexpectedly ruled in favor of the banking sector in a long-running battle over the legality of overdraft fees.


The ruling means banks won't be forced to automatically refund billions of pounds of fees to customers. However, the court didn't rule on whether the charges themselves were fair, meaning customers can continue with individual claims against the banks.

Lloyds might not participate in the government's asset protection program

 Lloyds Banking Group may struggle to escape participation in the government's asset protection program, and even if it does, the result could be increased risk for shareholders, analysts said Thursday. 


Lloyds has said it's looking at options to reduce or replace the scheme, under which the government would guarantee around 260 billion pounds of its assets.

Lloyds wins support for $16 billion withdrawal from insurance scheme

According to the Guardian, Lloyds Banking Group has won backing from its investors to raise 10 billion pounds ($16.3 billion) to reduce its dependence on the taxpayer.

The bank, 43 percent-owned by the UK government after taking over HBOS last year, had won support from "important City (financial district) shareholders", who said they are prepared to back CEO Eric Daniels if he decides on a partial withdrawal from the government's insurance scheme, the UK newspaper said.

Barclays’ shares drop sharply effected by Abu Dhabi's selling its stocks

As it became known today, Barclays’ shares plunged by 13% after Abu Dhabi's International Petroleum investment Co. announced about its intention to sell 1.3 billion shares in the bank, worth around 4.1 billion pounds ($6.7 billion) at the previous day's closing price.

Standard Chartered started 2009 successfully

On Tuesday in Hong Kong Peter Sands, CEO of Standard Chartered, reported that the bank has enjoyed a 'strong' first two months of 2009. He also said that the bank will concentrate on the organic growth for the rest of this year.

Financial shares have rallied over the past 10 days first from American banks Citigroup and Bank of America, and then from Barclays suggest that trading for banks has at least stabilized in the first quarter of this year.
