YouTube users may now add licensed mp3 to their clips

Users who post their video on YouTube will now be able to add music to their videos for a reasonable commission. YouTube now supports a site called FriendlyMusic from RumbleFish. The site lets YouTube users purchase a lifetime license to edit songs into their videos. Users can find the music composition they like, pay for mp3 and use it in their video clips. Once the user purchases the song from the site it remains licensed for unlimited views.

NMPA sues LiveUniverse and LyricWiki for free sharing song lyrics online

US music publishers are opening up another can of web whoop-ass on alleged copyright-infringement miscreants, this time suing online lyrics sites.

On Monday, the National Music Publishers Association announced that three of its members Peermusic, Warner/Chappell, and BugMusic have filed suit against two websites that threaten the commonwealth by posting song lyrics without paying the NMPA for the right to do so.

Wikipedia makes its service “more legal”

It was declared that the Wikimedia Foundation will be changing the terms of its licenses on the content in Wikipedia to Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA), with the aim of simplifying the process of re-using the content on Wikipedia and its other sites.

The decision has already been approved by Wikimedia's Board of Trustees.

Toshiba is licensed under Gemalto patents

Gemalto announced it has reached an agreement with Toshiba, aimed at licensing Toshiba under Gemalto patents for use in their mobile communication products.

A worldwide patent license agreement recognizes Gemalto’s contribution to the GSM/GPRS technology and enables Toshiba to continue development of its existence in the GSM/GPRS handset market. The terms and conditions of the agreement have not been revealed.

Gemalto is a global leader in digital security. 

Toshiba is a leading manufacturer of electronic equipment and handsets in the Japanese market.

On Thursday NVIDIA Corporation announced that it is launching a countersuit against Intel Corporation for breach of contract. The filing was submitted in the Court of Chancery in the State of Delaware and seeks to terminate Intel’s license to NVIDIA’s valuable patent portfolio.

TomTom to be sued by Microsoft for patent infringement

Microsoft Corp. announced that it is going to initiate a lawsuit against TomTom NV, Europe's largest maker of car-navigation devices, with the patent infringement complaints filed in federal court and with the International Trade Commission. The suit was filed "after attempting for more than a year to engage in licensing discussions with TomTom” explains Microsoft's deputy general counsel of intellectual property, Horacio Gutierrez.
