FCC defended net neutrality rules: anti-trust laws cannot protect the Internet

This week the US top communications regulator addressed the Congressional hearing saying that antitrust laws were not enough to preserve the openness of the Internet and to allow innovation to flourish

"Antitrust enforcement is expensive to pursue, takes a long time and kicks in only after damage is done," Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski told.

As it became known, Barack Obama has signed Wednesday the biggest US financial-rules overhaul since the Great Depression. 

This legislation, that gives regulators tools to avoid the need for future rescues such as the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, was called by Treasury Department’s assistant secretary, Herbert Allison, as a “major watershed” for the government’s bailout programs.

As it became known Thursday, The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative unveiled its intention to uphold strongly Representative Jim McDermott, who has presented an updated version of the Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act of 2010.

The updated act is to provide guarantee taxes and fees collected from wagers placed online in order to raise much-needed revenue for federal and state budgets.

Darling claims to ban automatic bonuses for UK bankers

 Great Britain will ban automatic bonuses for bankers in a new law expected to be enacted within weeks, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling told Labour Party members Monday. 


In a speech at the party's annual conference in Brighton, Darling, who heads the U.K. Treasury, said the legislation will require bonuses to be meted out over several years. The law will also ensure that bonuses can be clawed back if bank performance deteriorates.

Less strict legislation on bonuses approved by the House

On Wednesday the bill that imposes restrictions on bonus payments at banks that receive governmental bailout funds passed on a 247-171 vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. Under the new legislation the U.S. Treasury will have much power to ban "unreasonable and excessive" compensation and bonuses that are not based on performance standards.
