People who want to find a job online may find themselves defrauded

The Identity Theft Resource Center had warned users to be cautious while visiting web sites related to job search. 

Linda Foley, the founder of the center, stated there were at least a dozen people who have called fearing they fell for a scam after the warning was announced last week. There was a similar warning three months ago from a federal agency run by the FBI, she said. However, "When you're in the middle of a crisis, common sense is suspended," Foley explained.

The Monster Employment Index, a monthly estimate of U.S. online job demand, rose four points in February, due to majority of industries increasing online jobs. The job availability increased in 17 of the Index’s 20 industry categories and 18 out of the 23 occupational categories. However, the Index remained down 26%, as it was in January on a year-over-year basis. This fact shows continued distress in labor market conditions

In the situation of economic downturn popularity of Web career sites has increased significantly. According to comScore Media Metrix, the number of category visitors grew 51% to 18.8 million in 2008. Even November and December, typically slow months for searching, had the heavy traffic. CareerBuilder.com led the online job search pack, with 9.1 million unique visitors in December 2008 versus 5.1 million in December 2007, which means a 78% growth.
