Internet fraud proves successful in many cases in UK

A recent study has estimated that one in eight adults in the UK have been the victim of online fraud or identity theft.

The survey, conducted by research firm YouGov and backed by online security vendor VeriSign, polled roughly 2100 adults in the UK. Of those, some 12 per cent said that they had been a victim of online ID fraud within the last twelve months.

According to a new study conducted by VeriSign, 86% of Australian internet users are at risk of online fraud, while in India the amount of vulnerable users makes up 76%. 

According to the research, Australia is one of the most vulnerable nations, as well as the UK and the USA, while Germany and Sweden are the best at protecting themselves online. Thus, USA has the minimum chances of recognizing a phishing site amid Sweden, Germany, Denmark, USA, UK, Australia and India, countries chosen for the survey.

Internet fraud has increased twice at the beginning of 2009

FBI’s Internet Fraud Complaint Center affirms in its report that Internet fraud in the U.S. increased by 33% in 2008 and continues rising for the first time in three years. Early indicators for 2009 are not cheerful either, they showed a 50% increase in reported Internet fraud complaints with February to March 2009.
