Americans think the government wastes time expanding broadband

According to the results of a study released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project major part of American consumers do not favor the idea of making affordable high-speed Internet access a government priority.

Pew conducted a survey which polled 2,252 adults nationwide over the phone and asked whether expanding affordable broadband access to everyone in the country should be a top priority for the federal government.

The report on the digital economy in the 27-nation EU released by the European Commission showed that 1/3 of EU citizens have never used the Internet, compared with 40% in 2007. The EU executive arm also said that more than one in four Europeans had never used a computer and 40% had no Internet access at home.

Google has partnered with the Grameen Foundation and mobile operator MTN Uganda to introduce a special SMS program for poor people in Uganda. The initiate includes SMS service and a new SMS-based classifieds system. According to the program concept these services target poor farmers and other underserved communities to help them access information using mobile phones, which they may own or borrow from small businesses that sell phone use.

T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced the launch of the T-Mobile webConnect™ USB Laptop Stick. The device enables users to connect to the Internet using T-Mobile’s 3G wireless broadband service.

Once customers plug the new webConnect laptop stick, produced by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei), to their lap tops, the built-in Connection Manager software automatically detects the most convenient Internet connection from more than 10,000 available across the U.S.
