Google will pay more to its staff

As reported by website Silicon Alley Insider, who cited a source familiar with the case, Google is increasing a pay for its staff by 10% at the start of next year.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt reported the company’s more than 23,000 employees of the raise by email, according to the Wall Street Journal report.

Silicon Alley Insider reported that Google is giving all its employees a $1,000 holiday bonus in addition to pay increases of at least 10 percent.

£23bn debit card spend forecast

According to PA News, consumers are expected to spend a record £23 billion on their debit cards during December despite the economic downturn, a research has shown.
A further £17.8 billion of cash is also expected to be withdrawn from ATMs during the month, according to Barclays.
The group, which based its research on spending trends in the past two years, expects debit card spending to be 4% higher than during December 2008.

 Under the shadow of a still-sluggish economy, many holiday shoppers are embracing healthier money management habits to help keep debt at bay, according to a new survey of 1,000 U.S. adults by USAA. In addition, this back-to-basics approach appears to have many shoppers feeling optimistic about this year’s holiday shopping with nearly half (48 percent) of survey respondents saying that the movie titles “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Jingle All The Way” best describe their approach to this year’s holiday budget.

Recent survey conducted by Travelodge revealed that about half of Britons are anticipating the forthcoming Christmas with fear in light of raging downturn. The study also shows that the average household will be spending £483 at Christmas which is £108 less in comparison with the previous year. Moreover, ¼ people in the country are still repaying the bill for the debts exceeded last Christmas.
