According to a recent report by the Identity Theft Resource Center the top cause behind the data breaches is hackers. Previously information was stolen due to lost laptop with unencrypted data or even a lost briefcase. In 2009 the situation changed to that one out of every five data breaches had a hacker behind it.

UBS offers IBM ZTIC to increase online banking security

UBS has rolled out IBM's Zone Trusted Information Channel (ZTIC) online banking security hardware to its customers. It is the first bank to offer such kind of functionality.

IBM’s product is a USB-attached device which being connected to a user’s PC increases the level of security above existing protection systems. Using this device customers log into their accounts and confirm transactions via a display on it.

Hacker attacks hit large companies more than it is actually reported

According to a survey by security software firm McAfee every second largest infrastructure supplier has been hit by a cyberattack.

While many attacks on business users prove successful security experts note that very few of the companies hit by hackers make the information public for fear of spoilt reputation.

iPhone's SMS function is vulnerable to hacker attack, Apple prepares a patch

During a presentation at the SyScan conference in Singapore on Thursday, security research Charlie Miller said that Apple is working to patch an iPhone vulnerability that could allow an attacker to remotely install and run unsigned software code with root access to the phone. The attack in question exploits a weakness in the way iPhones handle text messages received via SMS.
