Gemalto powers mobile money transfers for Zimbabwe people

A digital security solutions provider Gemalto has partnered with Zimbabwe’s network operator NetOne to enable underbanked consumers to initiate mobile money transfers. NetOne will deploy Gemalto’s LinqUs solution for Mobile Money Transfer, which comprises of the server, user application, as well as system integration services.

The offering titled as the OneWallet service, works on 100% of the handsets and will enable all NetOne subscribers to perform secure and convenient money transfer using their mobile phone.

Barclaycard will create first in the UK contactless mobile payments system

Barclaycard is launching the UK’s first commercial contactless mobile phone payments system in association with network operator Everything Everywhere. The launch is scheduled for this summer.

The companies said in a statement that they are working with the unnamed handset vendor to allow Britons to make low value payments at the point of sale by waving their phones against specially equipped contactless terminals.

Gemalto’s credit cards ensure more secure online payments

Gemalto has launched a new credit card technology that enables banks to offer their clients a single card with both payment and increased security for online transactions.

Users activate the card’s online secure password by pressing a special button on the surface of the card. The card generates digital code that can be used for one-time authorization. Thus, customers enters this unique and non-reusable numeric code on a Web page apart from their user name and password.

The new Gemalto Ezio product is immediately available in the United States.

VeriFone partners Gemalto to unveil new EMV-based chip card solutions

According to the latest report of VeriFone Systems, Inc., a provider of secure electronic payment solutions, the company has partnered Gemalto to jointly pursue new chip card solutions based on the global EMV payment standard. Also it is expected that VeriFone will buy Gemalto's point of sale (POS) solutions business, and Gemalto will become the preferred supplier of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) wireless modules and related solutions for VeriFone payment systems.

A digital security company Gemalto has been selected by Japanese mobile communications provider KDDI to provide its User Identity Module (UIM) cards and Trusted Service Management (TSM) solution for their Near-Field Communication (NFC) program.
Within the period of May to December 2010 participants of the pilot program will be able to test various types of NFC payment services including mobile payments, transportation services, e-driver’s licenses, e-ticketing, as well as information acquisition from smart posters.

Gemalto to pay up to EUR10 million for corrupted payment cards

Gemalto, a smart card supplier, will book an exceptional charge of up to EUR10 million in its 2009 results. The charge comes to cover financial claims stemming from a Y2K-related coding error that rendered millions of German payment cards unable to process the 2010 date-change.

As a result of the glitch as many as 30 million payment card users were unable to use their cards in cash machines and eftpos terminals across the country. German customers traveling overseas were also hit.
