Microsoft is preparing a new Xbox Live pack for families as it seeks to win users over the Wii to its own video gaming platform. The company additionally wants to lure them with its upcoming Kinect controller.

Apart from usual membership privileges Family Pack will also include a single, central set-up hub for all four members.

According to some speculations Sony is preparing a “smart phone capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games.”

The rumors say that among the devices currently under development at Sony there is the PlayStation-compatible phone.

Earlier Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) SVP of publisher relations, Rob Dyer, told Industry Gamers that the PSP Go has turned out to be confusing and expensive.

Sony launches its Torne DVR and TV tuner for PS3 in March

Sony confirmed its plans to launch Torne DVR and TV tuner for the PlayStation 3 console as early as next month. On the initial state the launch will start only in Japan, mainly because the unit supports the country's terrestrial digital broadcasts.

The Torne connects via USB and can record TV onto the hard drive of the console or up to four external hard drives simultaneously.

Players will be able to connect up to eight USB drives and register each one with the recorder.

For the first time in three years of its existence the popular video game console Sony PlayStation 3 was hacked by the same hacker who was the first to successfully jailbreak the iPhone.

The hack by 20-year-old George Hotz, aka geohot, significantly expands the functionality of the box by allowing it to run unrestricted versions of Linux and a wide range of games that are currently forbidden. The hardware and software designer told it took him five weeks to develop the hack using a combination of modifications to the console's hardware and software.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 may lose the support of Activision

The possibility of stopping the making of video games for Sony’s PlayStation 3 was announced by the Chief Executive of Activision, Bobby Kotick on Friday. High costs and poor sales were mentioned as the reasons for such a possibility. In the interview with the Times of London, Kotick said that $399 for the PS3 was too high while Nintendo’s Wii, the most popular console, and Microsoft’s Xbox cost $250 and $200 respectively.
