According to the speculation reported by DigiTimes next generation game console from Sony will feature body-movement controls like those offered by Microsoft’s Kinect. The game console PlayStation 4 is scheduled for launch in 2012.

The move is not surprising as long as Sony’s motion gaming technology resembles that of Nintendo’s Wiimote motion gaming technology. The report states that Foxconn and Pegatron Technology will be assembling the PS4 for Sony with production at the end of 2011 for a 2012 launch.
 

Nintendo Co Ltd unveiled this week a new touchscreen controller as a part of its forthcoming Wii console. The device was welcomed with gaming critics but disregarded by investors.

Shareholders were disappointed with the announcement as they believe Nintendo is too focusing on hardware while the gaming market drives into the social networking direction.

77 million accounts were compromised in a massive data breach incurred by Sony Corp. The company this week unveiled the fact of hacking of its video game online network that led to the theft of names, addresses and possibly credit card data belonging to 77 million user accounts.

The breach became known for Sony on April 19 which prompted the company to shut down the network. However, Sony did not uncover the news to the public until Tuesday.

Sony has been granted permission by a federal judge to subpoena PayPal records of George Hotz, the hacker behind jailbreaking the company’s PlayStation 3 game console.

Pediatricians in America revealed that playing video games results in actual physical injuries both for gamers and bystanders. According to the US National Electronic Injury Surveillance System during the period 2004 to 2009 Americans suffered 696 "video game-related injuries" with 92 of these from Wii-style interactive capering-style setups, but somehow the remaining 604 wounds were sustained in more traditional couch-potato style scenarios.

In November the US Supreme Court will be considering oral arguments of the California state administration on whether its law which bans the sale of violent games to children is constitutional. Sony PlayStation 3 video game console was jailbroken by a hack that enables users to run backup and home-brewed copies of games, as reported by an Australian seller of videogame modchips OzModChips.com which posted three videos on YouTube that purport to show a fully current version of the console that is broken using a simple USB dongle.

In the video you may see how a person puts a disc copy of God of War III into the PS3's drive and then activates the console's backup manager. He then appears to scroll through a list of games before selecting and running the title Infamous.

Sony Ericsson is rumored to be developing a new Android mobile phone that could play PlayStation like games. In place of a slide-out keyboard the phone will feature a slide-out game controller complete with D-pad, buttons and analog control-strip. The rumors say the phone will come in October.

The new survey into European gaming attitudes, compiled by the ISFE and ELSPA, two trade bodies, revealed that 34% of British men and 31% of British women consider themselves as gamers.

Their report notes the rise of the new gamer attracted to a more accessible gaming world, which is redressing the traditionally skewed male / female demographic.
