Fujitsu and Sharp launch 11 Symbian smartphones

Japanese companies Fujitsu Ltd and Sharp Corp announced 11 new smartphone models running Symbian software this week. While Symbian is the largest smartphone operating system, on more than 400 million such phones since 2000 it’s been declining since Apple unveiled its iPhone in 2007. Thus, Japan remains the only market where other manufacturers than Nokia are still taking it on. Samsung and Sony Ericsson earlier discarded the platform.

Microsoft joins efforts with Fujitsu to compete with Google

According to the Register the giants of IT market Microsoft and Fujitsu are planning to share data centers worldwide to compete with other giants such as Google and Salesforce.com. Redmond is expected to mix its software with Fujitsu’s customer service offerings, according to Nikkei business daily (via Reuters). Fujitsu, which has around 90 data centers based in 16 countries across the globe, will begin hosting MS cloud services later this year at the company’s Tatebayashi hub in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Software companies can test their programs on Fujitsu servers for free

Japanese IT firm Fujitsu Ltd announced that it would allow software makers to test their programs on its hardware for free so that they could examine performance. The company hopes such testing would boost sales of its computer servers with an aim to double such sales to about 10 billion yen ($114 million) by the financial year starting next April.

Software developers in turn will be able to promote their products to prospective clients such as manufacturers, a Fujitsu spokeswoman said.

The case arouse with the launch of Apple’s iPad, that seems to look like the Chinese maker’s P88.

Intel's USB 3.0 chipsets will come in 2011

Intel has decided to wait until 2011 before it introduces PC chipsets with integrated USB 3.0 controllers. So a senior mole at a major PC maker has claimed, at any rate.

The insider this week told EETimes the move will push demand for the 4.8Gb/s bus technology back a year.

Even if Intel is anticipating that USB 3.0 chipsets won't debut until 2011, that doesn't prevent other chipset makers doing so themselves, or third-party silicon designers implementing suitable controllers that bridge the new bus and a computer's system logic.

IBM is about to purchase a weakening Sun Microsystems for $6.5 bln in cash

According to the recent report of Wall Street Journal International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) is going to acquire Sun Microsystems for $6.5 billion in cash. Both companies refuse to comment on this deal however most investors are sure that finally Sun will become the property of IBM. Over the past year the shares of Sun Microsystems dropped more than 70% and on Tuesday closing price was $4.97 a share.

A Scottish company Picsel Technologies, has brought an action against the creature of Steve Jobs Apple Inc. for illegal use of their smooth zooming and scrolling technologies on Apple’s iPhone. According to the suer Apple have illegally implemented their technologies to speed up various screen transitions including zooming and scrolling. Such technology is already used by such known companies as Fujitsu, NEC, Toshiba, Sharp, Panasonic, Palm, HP, Motorola, and Nokia which have hade a special agreement with Picsel.
