Yahoo fires another 5% of its staff

Yahoo will lay off another 600 employees as early as today according to the reports from the sources familiar with the case.

The cuts thus represent about 4-5% of the company’s workforce which came to be 14,100 at the end of September according to Yahoo's website.

Earlier this month the technology blog AllThingsD reported that Yahoo planned to cut 650 employees, and the New York Times newspaper reported on Monday that the cuts could take place as soon as Tuesday.

Apple executive responsible for iPhone 4 is fired for antenna issue?

An executive who oversaw development of the iPhone 4 at Apple is leaving his post. Mark Papermaster has been head of Apple's iPhone and iPod hardware engineering department since 2009 when he joined the company from IBM.

According to many speculations his departure is linked to the problems with the antenna on the iPhone 4. Meantime, Apple, declined to comment on the reasons for his departure and say whether he resigns or is fired.

Lloyds’ merger is not good for employees. The Group to fire 1,000

Lloyds Banking Group, the UK part-nationalized financial services giant, confirmed the plans to cut jobs at its motor finance division in a move to reduce costs by combining sales forces. The bank formed out the merger of Lloyds TSB and HBOS, last year, will cut 985 full and part-time jobs over the next two years.

According to the new study conducted by Harris Interactive for Glassdoor.com, an online career site that posts salaries and workplace reviews, now more workers in the U.S. are concerned about possible layoffs as compared to the end of 2008. The survey found that 26% of the polled now fear being fired within the nearest six months. In a similar study at the end of the previous year 21% of respondents expressed such concerns.
