HSBC Plc plans to cut its workforce which may account for more than 10,000 employees, as the bank seeks to cut its costs, reported Sky News, citing the sources with the knowledge of the matter.
Sky News adds that the plans of the bank have not been yet finalized. Meantime, officials at the company provide no comments. |

Yahoo will lay off another 600 employees as early as today according to the reports from the sources familiar with the case.
The cuts thus represent about 4-5% of the company’s workforce which came to be 14,100 at the end of September according to Yahoo's website.
Earlier this month the technology blog AllThingsD reported that Yahoo planned to cut 650 employees, and the New York Times newspaper reported on Monday that the cuts could take place as soon as Tuesday.

As reported by website Silicon Alley Insider, who cited a source familiar with the case, Google is increasing a pay for its staff by 10% at the start of next year.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt reported the company’s more than 23,000 employees of the raise by email, according to the Wall Street Journal report.
Silicon Alley Insider reported that Google is giving all its employees a $1,000 holiday bonus in addition to pay increases of at least 10 percent. |

According to a survey, conducted for CareerBuilder.com, an online jobs site, between August 20 and September 9, the number of workers calling in sick to work with fake excuses remains steady at about 30% each year, though fewer are getting fired for it.
However, the amount of US employers who check up on absent workers declined to 29% this year from 31% last year and 35% the previous year.

Goldman Sachs Group announced its plans to hire up to 200 employees for its asset management unit, as reported by Goldman’s spokeswoman on Sunday. The division has about $820 billion under management and the hiring started three months ago.
"We are moving back on the offensive," the Financial Times quoted Marc Spilker, Goldman's co-head of investment management business, as saying.
The paper reported that Goldman plans to expand its investment management business organically instead of through acquisitions.

According to a recent survey most of American workers are reluctant to have a management related job. The cited increased stress as the most common reason to decline a position of a manager.
The survey conducted by Harris Interactive for Randstad, an employment services company, shows that addressing disgruntled employees, increased paperwork and having to terminate or lay off employees were the other top reasons workers shy away from management jobs.

A banking group UBS conducted a study that showed employees in Zurich and Geneva have the highest net wages in the world. The report titled as "Price and Earnings 2009" revealed that Swiss cities ranked among the top five most expensive in the world.
"With its extremely high gross wages and comparatively low tax rates, Switzerland is a very employee-friendly country," the Swiss bank said in a statement.
