Facebook becomes US advertising leader in 2011

According to the stats from a recent research Facebook’s US advertising revenue will reach $2.2 billion in 2011 displacing Yahoo Inc.

eMarketer’s report shows that Facebook's U.S. advertising revenue will give it a 17.7 percent share of the market for graphical display ads that appear on websites.

Last year Facebook had 12.2 percent share of the U.S. market.

E-retail sales to grow by nearly 10% a year through 2013, according to eMarketer

Online retail sales will return to growth in 2010 and to double-digit growth by 2011, eMarketer Inc. predicts. The eMarketer forecast calls for an increase in e-retail sales to over $189 billion by 2013, which would represent a 9.56% compound annual growth rate from 2009 to 2013.
The firm forecasts U.S. e-retail sales this year will total $131.4 billion, down about 0.7% from $132.3 billion last year, but will grow 7.5% next year to $141.3 billion. The firm projects growth rates of 11.5% in 2011 and 10.0% in 2012, before slipping back to 9.2% in 2013 as e-commerce matures.

Television appears to be a leader in purchasing decision influence in five major markets (US, UK, Japan, Germany and Brazil), leaving the second position even for Internet as well traditional media: magazines, newspapers and radio. That was shown by the Deloitte market study in September and October 2008.

Television dominate despite the fact that majority of consumers in all this five countries say their computers were used more for entertainment than their TVs.

Most online buyers pay with credit cards. But the online credit card retail purchase volume growth rate is falling, and not just because of the recession. 

Data from a January 2009 Javelin Strategy and Research study reveals that credit card purchase volume will continue to grow online and command the largest market share among payment types, reaching $107 billion by 2013, up from $81 billion in 2008.

Retail e-commerce growth in the US drops sharply

2008 had already been shaping up to be the weakest holiday season yet for retail e-commerce. Based on just-released third-quarter e-commerce data from the US Department of Commerce (DOC), eMarketer is predicting even more anemic growth—both for the holiday and the year. 

The DOC estimated that e-commerce sales grew only 4.6% in the third-quarter of 2008, compared with the third quarter of 2007.
