MasterCard enables biometric authentication payments in India

Global payments company MasterCard Worldwide announced a payment platform for ‘Aadhaar’. The solution will enable Aadhaar holders to perform payment transactions using UID numbers with biometric authentication.

The new system builds on the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) platform and MasterCard’s payment network and family of brands. The service enables ‘Aadhaar’ account holders to move away from cash and towards electronic transactions.

China UnionPay card network operator has launched an initiative to organize a group of national banks, wireless operators and handset makers to form a mobile payments industry alliance in a move to make the sector be more standardized and regulated.

According to the official statement members will be working to promote mobile payment business adopting the international standard on contactless communication defined by the ISO.

According to miamiherald.com, on Tuesday the U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby made a decision to dismiss more than 20 civil claims brought after the data breach in Hannaford Bros supermarket chain that exposed 4.2 million credit and debit card numbers to computer hackers revealed in March 2008. Thus, the judge tossed the lawsuits in Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont , except one from a Vermont woman who was not reimbursed for fraudulent charges.

The first near-field communications (NFS) trial of Mobile PayPass was completed in Canada. An electronic payment system MyECheck is partnering with Morse Data Corp. to provide it with payments processing services. Under the terms of the deal MyECheck will become another payment option added to the Morse Data Corp.’s InOrder product.
