People across the globe are glad the crisis has come

 It seems the financial crisis isn't all doom and gloom: one in four people are glad the world's economy slumped like it did, because it helped them realize their priorities in life, according to a global survey.

Market research firm Synovate polled around 11,400 people across the world and found more than half had permanently changed their attitudes toward money over the last 12 months.

Another 47 percent, however, said they were looking forward to being able to spend freely again.

75% of Americans feel the need to upgrade their financial knowledge

 According to Mintel Comperemedia’s study results, about 75% of adults are planning to come back to school this fall, aiming to increase their financial know-how in terms of the current economic recession.


Meantime, 32% have already done this, while 43% intends to learn more about financial topics in the future.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is partnering with Viacom Inc.'s television networks, education leaders and celebrities to launch an awareness campaign to reduce the number of dropouts.

Western Union Foundation awards more than $1.9 million in worldwide grants

The Western Union Foundation today said that it has awarded more than US$1.9 million in grants under Western Union's Our World, Our Family(R) signature program. Grants to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in 19 countries include funding to promote microfinance in North India, to assist Vietnamese migrants in Taiwan through language acquisition classes, and to provide business guidance to owners of small farms in Bangladesh.

Yahoo! Inc. has announced it was partnering with University of California at Berkeley, Cornell University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Carnegie Mellon University to advance cloud computing research, also known as M45. 

Yahoo! cloud computing cluster has been operating since November 2007 and has already been in use by Carnegie Mellon.
