Zero interests rate will remain as the US economic is still weak

 As it was expected by many observers and analysts the Federal Reserve announced it would further keep the interest rates in a range of zero to 0.25 percent. Closing its two day meeting the central bank said that the US economy shows signs of coming recovery but it is still committed to keeping borrowing costs near zero citing weak activity and absence of inflationary risks.

Economy in US contracts further with consumer spending up 1.4%

According to reports, the US economy shrank at 5.5 per cent pace in the first quarter, compared with the previous estimate of a 5.7 per cent decrease.

The Commerce Department's final estimate of gross domestic product still showed a horrible decline on the heels of a 6.3 per cent slide in the fourth quarter of 2008, reflecting the worst drop in decades.

According to the results of a survey by the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE), foreign real estate investors say they expect to see a recovery in the U.S. real estate market by the end of the second quarter of 2010. Respondents projected their investments for the remainder of 2009 will substantially out-strip investments completed year-to-date.

Economic activity in the Rep. of Korea is ‘yet to show a recovery trend’

On Monday Bank of Korea governor Lee Seong-tae said that the economy of the Republic of Korea featured insignificant recovery as industrial output is still suffering under sluggish domestic demand and a worsening domestic job market, reports the Reuters.

“In spite of some improvements in financial markets, real economic activity has yet to show a recovery trend,” the central bank’s chief said in a speech prepared for an international conference.

A report released on Wednesday by The Conference Board, a private research group, confirmed similar white papers previously published by a number of researchers saying the U.S. economy is under the threat of inflation which might result in a second recession next year.

The Fed’s immense spending to boost the U.S. economy is expected to bring its fruits in the last quarter of 2009.

Commercial papers in the U.S. fall over 30% vs three years ago

The Federal Reserve reported a sharp decline of the U.S. commercial papers over past five weeks. The commercial paper market which is a fundamental instrument for short-term corporate financing lost more than $200 billion in value starting from early January. While during the last week alone the figure increased $31.5 billion leading the total market stand for $1.554 trillion it decreased by about a third against the high numbers recorded before the crisis flamed up in 2007.
