The European Commission is persuading the European Union to create a "pro-competitive European" answer to the legal arrangement Google and others seek to implement in the US, calling to European lawmakers and those involved in the process of digitizing books.

Moreover EC considers that it’s possible to set up an E.U. legal framework for digitizing books faster than in the US, despite Google has already commenced the process in the US and in spite of the fact E.U. comprises the different copyright regimes of its 27 members.

According to a recent report on e-commerce from the EC, about 30% of customers have bought at least one item online. In some certain countries, like UK, France, and Germany, this figure is even higher. An annual transactional value totaled €100 billion.

Nevertheless, only 7% of customers acquire their goods online from a vendor based in another member state, so the gap between domestic and overseas e-commerce is extending.

The European Commission unveiled an interesting fact: half of 10 year old kids in the EU own mobile phones. This figure reaches 95% concerning all the kids under 16 years old. However parents are still anxious that their children are not protected enough.

So, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland and Luxembourg don’t have "voluntary" agreements requiring operators to control access to adult-orientated material. In those countries only 41% of operators worry whether those measures are working.
